officially driver!

Published by reshmac at 9:31 pm under General

Just came home after passing the most dreaded driving test :), the test went so smooth without a single mistake that my instructor couldn’t believe it was me !!! He also told other students that I got the worst scolding every lesson and we had a good laugh thinking about all the mistakes I did during the lessons. Now even I can flaunt my license card every time Shreyas boasts about his driving skills and how he follows the protocol .

At work, I think I am learning a lot of new things and my mentor Bob makes it a point to brush off the dust on my fundamentals. I hope someday even I could visualize all the threads in a running program, function calls and use patterns as comfortably as Bob. But it’s fun to work with someone who is a total perfectionist and can not even tolerate any imperfect comment in the code. Also I have been following => this blog for last two days and find it pretty informative and interesting so thought of sharing with everyone.

Now that Neha and me are proud license holders, no need to mention that our shopping tours would be doubled in next couple of weeks and so would my fights with friends to let me drive on freeways.

Traffic

This is for everyone to follow road crossing instructions as I would be hitting the road soon(Though even today i dint cross 15 MPH and I am one of those over cautious drivers whom everyone loves to overtake :) )

Now that you are gonna drive and also happen to be a woman driver….remember a few points

    1. ALWAYS yield to people
    2. The STOP sign really wants you to stop but not forever
    3. The break and accelerator are pretty close to each other, so please use the right foot (right=correct and not right=right)
    4. Try and be on your driving seat and not rub you nose against the wheel (Thats a fav driving position for women…atleast indian ones!)
    5. You cant get away from a ticket with some salty water in your eyes! Cops are the least emotional people here
    6. Shop considerably-You dont want the bags lying on the windscreen
    7. The left indicator is for a left turn and a right indicator for a right. Theres no indicator to keep going straight!
    8. Cars run on gas. Try and understand the dials on the dashboard. They can help you sometime
    9. Use the seat belt though it might spoil the crease on your dress. It will make you look good for a longer time though
    10. Make the journey a safe and happy one for others in the car and on the road!

Though I’d like to respond on each 1 of those, I thought the last 1 was pretty interesting:
“10. Make the journey a safe and happy one for others in the car and on the road!”
Umm..actually if u drive that car at 15mph, I’m sure the passengers in the car wud b very happey (sarcastically speaking!) In no time u’d reach nowhere!

Congrats!! I remember the time I went for my license - it was my 18th bday - I was so excited at the prospect of learning to drive, I gave up all celebrations and went on my bday itself to the RTO. I can still remember the cop looking at my form & then his watch & chuckling :)
