New pinch!

Published by reshmac under General, Review

My site was down for sometime but here I am back on a brand new hosting, nice and clean. Thanks to Mr.Phadnis for giving me his hosting plan, no more advertisements flashing on my pages.
Got a new MDA, after an extensive search I picked this chick piece from Tmobile.

MDA

With all the internet features and a mega pixel camera, it serves almost all the purposes which a pc can provide.Isnt it supercool? :-)
Second news: we went to legal sea food last weekend and the food was a total nightmare. The fish was almost raw. I know ..eekss and on top of that I had ordered lobsters and shrimps. Abhilash ordered alaskan crabs which were pathetic (though he wont agree). Even though the prices were exhorbitant and fish was fresh, food was no close to tasty. The after effects were I felt puky at 4 o’clock night and had to eat french toast next day when I had a lunch meeting with Smita and Santosh( My didi’s friends from Manhattan) .

Miami Vice

Watched Miami vice, a super smart movie, starring very handsome Colin farrell and Jamie Foxx as undercover cops. Though the storyline was obvious, visuals were worth capturing my attention, overall I would rate it as a good popcorn movie. To read more about my fun packed weekend with Karan and Darshit (friends from New york university) check out my next post .

Long weekend

Published by reshmac under General, My life, Review

Last weekend we discovered a yet new restaurant in downtown, called Rock Bottom. I was a bit apprehensive initially as the look of the restaurant did not give me a friendly impression at first glance, we preferred sitting in the lounge section rather than waiting for a table. But after eating their special chicken fajita with saute rice, tortillas and cream cheese, I had no room for complaints.

Rock Bottom

With Scrumptous food and lots of televisions placed at perfect angles, Rock Bottom is a perfect place to spend a cozy friday evening.

Watched two movies over the weekend Revolution OS and The devil wears Prada. Revolution OS is a story about hackers who
created GNU/Linux and open source movement. It was great watching interviews of high tech big shots like Linus Torvalds, Richard Stallman whose books we have cherished like bibles.

Revolution OS

The exciting part is narration of Bill Gates’ “Open letter to hobbyists” , the sarcasm used in the letter accompanied by the horror music in the background makes it more interesting. That reminds me Shreyas’ introduction section on one of my course’ home page CSG111 which says “I believe in open source except for the homework” ;)

I simply freaked on “The devil wears prada” a very fashionable yet sensible movie, the amusing part is even though the movie is marketed towards women, even my guy friends enjoyed the movie equally.

The devil wears prada

The story is about a not so fashion freak young girl, recently graduated journalism major, working as an assistant to the editor of the most influential fashion magazine in New York. Throughout the movie there is an exclusive show of fashion, luxury and power still somewhere it makes you think what you really want to become in life and at the cost of how many compromises.
The lead actress Anne Hathaway has done a great job, the only ironic thing is she is considered not so slender girl in the movie :) .
Jeez is’nt she slim enough?????

Anne Hathway, Julia Roberts

Doesn’t Anne resemble Julia Roberts?

My latest crush

Published by reshmac under General, I recommend, Review

I think I am in love ..yes you heard it right, how can anyone not fall in love with it. I am talking about one of the best endevours of man to reach perfection till now: new iMacs :) . If you want to take your breath away, visit my school’s Info Commons lab, all the old Mac machines are relpaced by brand new iMacs. I happened to visit the lab yesterday and was on cloud nine when got to use the new machines. Being a girl the very first experiment was a quick portfolio session using photo booth, the iSight camera is so beutifully integrated that I hardly noticed it initially, the quality of pictures is awesome (Immediately sent fresh snaps with lots of cool effects to parents ).

Yes this slim shape has a place for everything from power supply to high quality speakers. With 2 Ghz Intel core duo processor, it gives double computational power at the same time six hours of battery life. The performance is so sturdy that we selected all applications and opened them simultaneously and without getting unstable for a second all the applications opened beautifully.

The iDVD 6 feature can make the slide show of your pictures, look like a masterpiece. I watched the preview of Hollywood blockbusters from the Apple.com QuickTime movie trailer website and believe me the picture quality on media display was even better than the theater effect.

macbook pro

The mighty mouse has a scroll ball which can be used to Scroll up, scroll down, even scroll diagonally within a document without lifting a finger. And the list will go on and on, now I will be going home but promise to you my dear Mac that I will come daily to visit you and the next laptop I buy is definitely going to be a MacBook :)

That reminds me, recently I watched “The pirates of Silicon Valley“, a must watch movie for all my software buddies. The story is about the parallel journey of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. It was not at all a documentary as I had expected it to be, infact the movie has a good story, an exciting start and a nail biting climax :)

Say cheese :)

Published by reshmac under General, My life, Review

Played badminton after almost 7 years and it was indeed great fun (though I lost all the games ;) ). We decided to have Friday night dinner at a very cozy and frilly restaurant, Cheesecake factory (after 4 blogs dedicated to food you must have guessed that I am a food freak).

Cheesecake Factory

Often there is a long wait, but they give you a pager that works throughout the mall so you can shop while you wait. We were lucky enough to get a table even on a friday night. It’s interior has a more soothing design because of lighted alcoves and faux finishes than the funkier downtown location. After going through the 19 pages menu for half an hour we ordered frozen iced mango, chicken pot stickers and popcorn shrimps for appetizers (chicken was a disappointment ).

Chicken Madeira

Abhilash (friend from CMU, currently doing internship in Boston) had lots of stories to share till we ordered the main course. I went for chicken madeira the speaciality of cheesecake, which was loaded with mozarella and ended up eating only half the dish as it was too heavy. In the end not to insult special delicacy of the eatery, we ordered just one Tiramisu cheese cake and shared it.

Cheesecake

At the end of the day we had a hole in the pocket but sometimes you deserve a little self-pampering :) .

If you dont like the weather in Boston dont worry, it changes in five minutes. Right now its a nice sunny and bright sunday morning and I will be spending evening watching movies in amc, one of the movies in agenda is “The fast and the furious 3: Tokyo Drift”. Tomorrow again a busy week starts, I would be implementing my code on a real remote array and check the output cross your fingers for me.Me signing off now, dont want to miss sunday lunch :) .

I scream for icecream!

Published by reshmac under My life, Review

At around 9:30 p.m. we were sitting in marino and had a strong craving for icecream so we fastened our seat belts and went to Cold stone, icecream store on Brookline avenue. I liked their cool tag line which says Friends do not take friends for icecream to a grossary store!

ColdStone

you select your favorite freshly-made ice cream flavor, choose your Mix-ins and then blend it on a granite stone and a delicious icecream is ready to melt in your mouth. I had a germanchocolatecale icecream with lots of chocolate syrup which looked like this.
German chocolate

Loved the way they refer to sizes of icecream scoops; like it for small, love it for medium, and gotta have it for large :)
